OCEAN PATH BETWEEN THUNDER HOLE & OTTER COVE
After wandering around Great Head I walked back on the Ocean Path to
the truck, got more food, and peeked at Thunder Hole again.
It was still underperforming and more of a crowd had gathered so I continued
south another mile and a half on the Ocean Path past some pretty little unnamed
coves, Otter Cliffs, Otter Point, and Otter Cove:
I liked this part of the path better because it is more shady and
out of sight of the road most of the time, yet still close to the rocks
and cliffs above the water:
This section of the trail is also rockier and more hilly, with some
steep steps next to the road at Otter Cliffs:

Otter Cliffs is the highest point on the Ocean
Path.
Continuing south on the trail to Otter Cove, where I stopped at Otter
Cove to eat a Clif Bar:

I turned around at the end of the trail and went back to the truck.
There were more people on the Ocean Path by then (about noon)
but not so many as to ruin my enjoyment of this gorgeous hike.
COASTAL HIKE #2
Here are a few more photos from my hike this morning with Jim and
both dogs. We parked at Thunder Hole again and walked to Otter Cove,
where Casey and Cody were able to get in the water:

The trail ends at Otter Cove, a picturesque place
for a snack and a good view of Cadillac Mtn.
After walking back to the truck we had a total distance of just under
two miles. I think Jim enjoyed the coastal views as much as I did. The
dogs loved the water, new stuff to smell, and attention from other hikers.
We highly recommend that visitors hike all or part of this relatively
easy path because you can see so much more walking than driving.
NOW WHAT?
Tomorrow we're returning to Twin Mountain, NH for two weeks. We've
definitely enjoyed our time on Mount Desert Island and look forward to
returning sometime in the future.
Next entry: more fun in the White Mountains!
Happy trails,
Sue
